2013 North American School of Information Theory

The 2013 School of Information Theory is organized by Center for Science of Information ( ), a National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center, and is sponsored by the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Information Theory Society. Hosted at Purdue University from Tuesday, June 4 to Friday, June 7, 2013, the school provides a venue where doctoral and postdoctoral students can meet to learn from distinguished professors in information theory, and form friendships and collaborations. This year the school will introduce several interdisciplinary topics in the emerging field of science of information. Students will present their own research via a poster during the school. Although the focus is on information theory, interdisciplinary topics are welcome, e.g., topics related to mathematics, physics, biology, control, networking, etc.

Prior to the poster sessions, each student should be prepared to give a 30 seconds to one minute overview of their poster using one overhead slide. • Wednesday Evening, June 5, Professional Development Workshop: "Biases in Hiring - How It Affects Everyone". Many of these biases are not even conscious to the reviewer. This workshop discusses the results as described in peer-reviewed publications of these studies, how you can be more aware of your own biases, and how the biases of others may impact your employment outlook. Please RSVP for this workshop by sending an email to Dr. Barbara Gibson ( [email protected] ) no later than May 31, 2013. There are limited number of seats available, so it is recommended you RSVP early.
