At each ISIT, the leadership of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Information Theory Society presents a number of awards, including the Thomas M. Cover Dissertation Award, the James L. Massey Research & Teaching Award for Young Scholars, the Jack Keil Wolf ISIT Student Paper Award, the Communications Society & Information Society Joint Paper Award, the Information Theory Society Paper Award, the Aaron D. Wyner Distinguished Service Award, and, most importantly, the Claude E. Shannon Award as the highest honor given out by the Society.
In addition to the awards, the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Information Theory Society Lecturerships are presented during the awards session: Padovani Lecturer, Goldsmith Lecturer, and several Distinguished Lecturers.
At the session, members of the Society are recognized for their volunteer work, such as serving as editors, on the Board of Governors, or in various offices. Organizers of past conferences and schools are also acknowledged.
