3 year fixed term contract (renewable subject to funding)
This Research Fellow position is for work on an Australian Research Council funded Linkage Project, in collaboration with
Prof Alex Grant
, A/Prof Linda Davis, Dr Nick Letzepis and Dr Ingmar Land at the
, in partnership with THISS Technologies Pty Ltd (Singapore) and Schlumberger Oilfield (UK).
The Research Fellow will work on innovative physical layer signal design and receiver design for low‐cost satellite communication systems. Of particular interest are techniques for mitigation of radio channel impairments due to interference and uncertainty in channel parameters. The successful applicant will possess a high degree of mathematical sophistication, and a strong background in communications theory, modern error control codes, and scientific programming. Exposure to DSP or VHDL implementations is also preferable. The research fellow will work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team (ITR and THISS) to ensure that the research directions are well grounded in practical considerations, and to provide a pathway for technology transfer and commercialisation.
The Institute for Telecommunications Research (ITR) is Australia’s largest University‐based telecommunications technology research
organisation, and is internationally recognised for excellence in the areas of information theory, error control coding, mobile broadband, cellular, wireless and satellite communications. ITR is home to a broad range of research activities, from basic theory and commercially funded applied projects, right through to development of high‐quality software and hardware products for industry.
