The successful candidate will work on signal processing and coding-theoretic algorithms for the low latency non-volatile memory channels. Advanced coding and signal processing techniques play a role in improving the storage system's error rate performance, increases storage density by minimizing overheads, and extends the lifetime of the memory cells. This relaxes the physical requirements of the actual memory device technology, and improves the overall memory performance. This project will develop an in-depth understanding of state-of-the-art non-volatile memory (NVM) technologies through detailed NVM channel characterization and modeling, and in so doing, design efficient channel codes with low complexity encoders and decoders for low latency performance. Candidates are expected to have strong background in digital and statistical signal processing, and preferably information and coding theory.
