Research Engineer Position, InterDigital Europe
(Contact: Dr. Onur Sahin, [email protected])
InterDigital Europe is seeking to add a research engineer to its
5G and beyond
research and development group for a duration of 12 months with possibility for renewal. The role of the research engineer will be to conduct research and development activities in the space of wireless communications with focus on
channel coding
and related PHY layer modules targeting 5G and beyond technologies. The role will involve fundamental and innovative technology development in channel coding, supported with link level simulations and test-benches. The successful candidate will actively work in the funded EU H2020 Beyond-5G project, EPIC (Enabling practical Tera-bit per second wireless communications via next generation channel coding), having continuous interaction and collaboration with the world’s leading channel coding experts and institutions, including Polaran (Prof. Erdal Arikan, inventor of Polar Codes), Telecom Bretagne (Prof. Catherine Douillard), Un. Kaiserslautern (Prof. Norbert Wehn), Ericsson, and IMEC. The candidate will have the opportunity to be the IDCC team member of this project which will be active between September 2017-September 2020.
Specific responsibilities in this role will include:
- Research and develop next generation channel codes and related link layer algorithms primarily with the objective of advancing state-of-the-art in polar codes
- Design and implement link-level simulations to support and verify the developed codes and algorithms
- Contribute to the design of relevant PHY layer blocks and algorithms to enable first-in-class ultra-high throughput (Tb/s) wireless links and various beyond 5G use-cases
- Interact with the broader EPIC project team, participate in the project team work, and contribute to the project deliverables
Requirements:
- PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is preferred. Strong MSc graduates with equivalent accumulated academic or industrial experience should also apply
- Strong information theory and signal processing background with expertise in channel coding is necessary
- Proven publication records particularly in the area of polar codes and LDPC/Turbo is preferred
- Experience in Matlab and/or C based link-level simulations
- Knowledge and experience in PHY layer design blocks is definitely a plus
Successful candidates will enjoy a relaxed startup type atmosphere with the security of a mature organization with over 40 years of history in the wireless industry. This role is based in Shoreditch, one of the most vibrant areas of London, hosting over 500 technology start-ups and companies.
