The 6G era will soon be upon us, providing unprecedented global connectivity, capacity, and coverage for thousands of new applications, and billions of new devices. What role can information theory and its rigorous approach to thinking about communications play in 6G? Can information theory continue to help push the boundaries of communication systems? What are key bottlenecks and problems that information and communication theorists should work on in the 6G era? The goal of this special issue is to explore questions such as these and help frame the important theoretical research questions for the next 5-10 years at the intersection of information theory and wireless communications. The remarkable evolution of data storage devices and systems during the past 40 years has enabled some of the defining technologies of our information-driven era -- from smartphones and high-performance PCs to enterprise computing systems and cloud data services. This special issue intends to showcase the role that information theory and coding theory will play in realizing the future of data storage. White paper submission: 1st October 2022.

Quantum computers are becoming rapidly more sophisticated and complex and nascent quantum networks are popping up around the globe. At present, small quantum computers from a variety of companies can already be accessed on the cloud. In this special issue, we will examine how information theorists are already helping the "second quantum revolution" and what potential opportunities lie ahead. This special issue intends to showcase how information processing tools (broadly defined, hence encompassing artificial intelligence, signal and image processing powered by machine learning, and more) can be used to address challenges arising in the arts and humanities.
